Sunday 24th January, and Windlesham Warriors welcomed Elm Grove Colts to Charters Ascot, for the teams second game of the season.
The starting line up was Tessa Goringe in goal, Charles Tysoe (last weeks player of the match) in defence, Luke Warren and Caldryn Buckley in midfield with Daniel DeLima (SuperDan) leading the line upfront.
Both teams started really well and the hard surface created a fast paced game. Some great saves from Tessa Goringe in goal and tackles a plenty from Charles Tysoe kept Elm Grove at bay. The midfield two, Luke Warren and Caldryn Buckley worked hard, as too did Daniel DeLima, putting in his fair share of tackles. Elm Grove had just edged the first quarter, but the Warriors had started very well.
On came Rishya Rawal in to midfield and Alex Gursel took his turn at leading the line. The second quarter started with a bang. Seconds in to his debut Rishya Rawal made a darting run through the Elm grove defence and calmly slotted the ball home. The second quarter continued to entertain, Elm Grove pulled a goal back, and Luke Warren struck the post. Tessa Goringe's performanc in defence and Caldryn Buckley's saves kept the Warriors in the game. Alex Gursel continued to work his socks off up front pressuring the Elm Grove players. The midfield duo of Rishya Rawal and Luke Warren continued to penetrate the Elm Grove defence and Luke Warren was rewarded with a goal.
The game changed in the third quarter, Elm Grove tighten up their game, and upped the pressure on the Warriors goal. Alex Gursel made some great saves and the outfield players continued to give their all for the team. More changes in the forth quarter saw the Warriors rotated again and show their versatility. Tessa Goringe thrived in midfield, producing some wonderful threatening runs, showing Elm Grove the Warriors were not giving up.
The whole team gave their absolute all till the final whistle. Alex, Daniel, Caldryn, Charles, Luke, Rishya and Tessa thoroughly entertained all those watching. Congratulations to them, and well done to Luke Warren, picking up Player of the Match.
