Club History

Our shared values are Fun, Friendly and Professional.

We are a community Football Club, run by local volunteers for local children.

Formed in the early 1900s, Windlesham United Football Club has certainly made its mark on the Field of Remembrance and the Village of WIndlesham.

Many local families have produced players for the club over the decades.

The Club archives reveal that it won the 1937/38 Ascot and District League Cup, followed by the League's subsidiary Cup 1950, and was runner up in 1951/52.

Nowadays, the Club belongs to the Surrey Intermediate League, having in one year of the early 1960s, won five cups, including the League Winners. The 1st team were promoted from the 2nd to the Premier division in 1991/92 season.

Local character Sid Cook was the longest standing player member of WUFC, joining in 1946, he eventually decided to hang up his boots to manage the team and eventually became life President of the Club. He remained a staunch supporter until he sadly passed away at home in March 2005. Sid was awarded the B.E.M in 1991. He often recalled his early days with the Club, and shared a story from just after the war. All lined up and ready for their Saturday fixture with the Ascot and District League, the players were surprised to find their opposing team comprised of German POWs from Reading. When at halftime the POW’s were leading 2-1, a local village supporter, who eventually became Mayor of Bagshot, stated that this simply was not good enough. Suffice to say that after a few words on recent history, WFC won 5-2!

These days the Club is comprised of adult and youth teams and a crowd of supporters regularly attend the Field of Remembrance for home matches on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. After matches the players, supporters and opposing team gather in the Windlesham Club to celebrate or commiserate!

The Club now boasts over 300 youth players, and 20 youth teams, playing in the Surrey Primary League. Players come from Windlesham, Lightwater, Sunningdale, Ascot, Bagshot and even further afield! These teams have had success in League and Cup competitions, and most importantly are building a solid foundation for the Club's future.

In 2017, Andrew Barclay was appointed as Chairman and Robin Lewis as Vice Chairman of Windlesham United (Youth).
